Hey kiddo! Do you know what a barbarian is? They were people a long, long time ago who lived in different parts of the world and didn't have the same kinds of laws and rules that we have now. They were a bit wild and didn't always follow the same customs as each other!
Now, when we say "five barbarians," we're talking about five specific groups of these people who lived a really long time ago. They were called the Vandals, the Visigoths, the Huns, the Franks, and the Angles.
The Vandals used to live in what's now modern-day Morocco, but they crossed over to Spain and then moved up to conquer other parts of Europe. They were known for being really destructive and for causing chaos wherever they went.
The Visigoths were also from Europe and they were famous for being really good fighters. They helped defeat the Roman Empire, which was a big kingdom that dominated Europe and the Mediterranean Sea for hundreds of years.
The Huns were a group of people from Central Asia who were led by a famous warrior named Attila. They were known for being really, really good at fighting and for being able to travel huge distances really quickly.
The Franks lived in what's now France, and they were known for being really powerful and for eventually conquering lots of other groups of people in Europe.
Finally, the Angles were a group of people who moved from what's now Denmark and Germany to what's now England. They were one of the groups of people who eventually mixed together to become the English we know today!
So, that's who the five barbarians were! They were groups of people who lived a long, long time ago and didn't always follow the same customs or rules as each other.
