ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Five Ws

Okay kiddo, let me explain the Five Ws to you like you are five years old. It's like playing a detective and trying to figure out the who, what, when, where, and why of a story.

Who: This is about finding out the name of the people or the characters involved in the story. For example, if someone tells you about a movie they watched, you can ask, "Who were the actors in the movie? Who played the main character?"

What: This is about finding out what happened in the story. For instance, if someone tells you about their day, you can ask, "What did you do today?" or If they mention watching a movie, you can ask them, "What was the story about? What happened in the movie?"

When: This is about finding out when the story took place. You can ask, "When did this happen? Was it yesterday or last week?"

Where: This is about finding out where the story takes place. For example, you can ask, "Where did this happen? Was it at home, school or a park?"

Why: This is about understanding the reason behind the story. You can ask, "Why did it happen? Why did they do that?"

So, the Five Ws are all about asking the right questions to get a complete picture of a story. By understanding the who, what, when, where and why, you can understand the full story and become a little detective!
