Flashed glass

Flashed glass is a special type of glass that has two different colors. Imagine you have a piece of glass that is clear. Now imagine that someone takes a special paint and applies it only to one side of the glass. This paint has a different color than the clear glass. So now you have a piece of glass that has two colors: one on the side with the paint and one on the clear side.

To make this type of glass, they start with a big pot of glass that is one color. Then, they dip a pipe into the glass while it's really hot and gather up a big blob of it. They add the special paint to the end of the blob, and then they roll it out into a flat sheet. The paint only sticks to one side of the glass, so you end up with a sheet that has two different colors on each side.

People use flashed glass in lots of different ways. Some people make stained glass windows out of it, where they cut the glass into shapes and use them to make pretty pictures. Some people use it to make bottles or vases that have a layer of color on the outside. It's really cool because it can add a special touch to something that would otherwise be plain.
