Flashing (weatherproofing)

Flashing is like putting on a raincoat for your house. Just like how we put on a raincoat to stay dry when it rains, you have to do the same thing with your house so it doesn't get wet inside.

When it rains, water can get through tiny gaps in the walls and roofs of your house, and that's where the flashing comes in. Flashing is a thin, usually metal or plastic strip that is installed on the outside of the walls or roof to cover up those gaps and keep water from getting inside.

It's really important because if water gets inside your house, it can damage the walls, ceiling, floors, and even your things inside like furniture or electronics. Flashing prevents this by creating a barrier that the water cannot penetrate, keeping your house and belongings dry and protected.

So just like how we put on a raincoat to stay dry, flashing is like putting on a raincoat for your house to keep it dry too!
