ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Flight envelope protection

So, imagine you're playing with your toy plane and you make it go up and down really fast. Sometimes, it can be hard to control it and make sure it doesn't crash. Flight envelope protection is like having a grown-up pilot helping you control the plane so it doesn't crash.

When a real plane is flying, it also has flight envelope protection. It's like a computer system that helps the pilot make sure the plane stays within a safe range of flying. The system works by setting boundaries, or limits, on how fast and how high the plane can go. If the plane moves outside of these limits, the system will automatically adjust things like speed or altitude to keep it safe.

For example, imagine the plane is going too fast and it might start shaking or breaking apart. The flight envelope protection system will automatically reduce the plane's speed to keep it from going too fast and helps it stay together. Or if the plane is going too high and might lose control or run out of oxygen, the system will make sure it descends to a safer altitude.

All of this happens so quickly that the pilot might not even notice it. It's like having a safety net just in case something goes wrong. Flight envelope protection helps keep everyone on the plane safe and makes sure the pilot can focus on flying the plane rather than worrying about safety.
