ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Folkhemmet

Okay, so you know how we all live in different houses with our families? And sometimes we have friends and neighbors who live in their own houses too?

Well, a long time ago in a country called Sweden, they had an idea to make sure everyone had a nice place to live and felt like they belonged to a big family called the "folkhemmet."

They wanted people to have their own homes or apartments, but also to feel connected to everyone else in the country. They wanted to make sure everyone had access to good healthcare, education, and job opportunities.

The idea of folkhemmet also meant that everyone would be treated fairly and that everyone's basic needs would be met. It was kind of like a big hug from the government, saying "we care about you and we want to make sure you're happy and healthy."

So, folkhemmet is basically a way of thinking about how a whole country can be like one big family, where everyone takes care of each other and makes sure no one is left out.
