Food

Food is the fuel our bodies need to keep going. It gives us energy to run, to play, and to do all sorts of things. Food is made up of lots of tiny building blocks called nutrients. These nutrients come from the five food groups: fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy. Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins and minerals. Grains such as oats, wheat, and rice give us energy and fiber. Foods from the protein group like meat, beans, and eggs have nutrients that help us grow. Dairy products such as milk, yogurt, and cheese provide us with calcium and vitamin D. Eating healthy amounts of food from each of these five food groups gives us the energy and nutrients we need to stay healthy.
