Food systems on space exploration missions

Space exploration missions need food to keep astronauts healthy and energised for their long journeys. Food systems on space exploration missions are plans to make sure astronauts have enough food and that it is nutritious. To do this, a lot of planning is needed. First, the astronauts figure out what foods they need, and then they buy enough of those foods to last the entire mission. They also make sure the food they are getting is nutritious, which means they get foods that are high in energy, vitamins, and minerals. The food must also be able to last a long time so it doesn't go bad. It is often dried, canned, or frozen, so it doesn't need special containers that take up much-needed space on the spacecraft. Finally, the food is prepared and sent to the spacecraft so the astronauts can eat it during their mission!
