ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Foreground-background

Hey there kiddo, bg and fg relate to things we see on our screen. Whenever we use our computer, we can see images or open up different applications, right? Well, these things are what we call "windows".

Imagine your screen is a house and you have a big window in the middle. This window lets you see different things at the same time. If you are looking outside, it means you are paying attention to the things in the "background", because they are behind the window.

On the other hand, when you are looking inside your house, you are paying attention to things that are in the "foreground". Just like how you focus on the latest toy you are playing with, that's the most important thing (foreground) compared to that beautiful sunset (background) outside of the window.

So, in short fg and bg are two different terms we use to describe which thing we are paying more attention to on the screen. The one in the foreground is the one that currently matters the most, and the one in the background can be seen but isn't as important right now. That's it kiddo.
