Foreign relations of the European Union

Foreign relations of the European Union (EU) are the relationships between the EU and the rest of the world. The EU deals with other countries in areas such as trade, security, development and diplomacy. For example, the EU works with other countries to ensure free trade, which is when countries removed taxes (extra costs) on goods such as food or cars that move between their borders. The EU also works with other countries on topics such as security and defence, meaning that the EU will help its neighbours defend against threats. Finally, the EU works with other countries on topics such as development - this means the EU will help its neighbours improve their standards of living and create jobs.
