Foreign relations of the Ryukyu Kingdom

When people from different places and countries come together, they need to talk and work together so they can get along and live in peace. This is called foreign relations. The Ryukyu Kingdom was a place in Japan a long time ago that had to work with other countries to trade and make friends.

The Ryukyu Kingdom was a very special place because it was located in the middle of lots of other countries. It was like an island that was in between bigger islands and big countries. These countries were China, Japan, and other smaller islands nearby.

The people from the Ryukyu Kingdom spoke a language called Ryukyuan and had their own culture. They traded things like cotton, paper, and sugar. They also made some things that were really popular in other countries, like ceramics and textiles.

The Ryukyu Kingdom was very smart about their foreign relations. They didn't just go and talk to other countries whenever they wanted. They had to ask permission from China first because China was a very powerful country. This was called the tribute system. Tributes were like special gifts that the Ryukyu Kingdom gave to China to show that they wanted to be friends.

Even though the Ryukyu Kingdom was smaller than other countries, they were really good at making friends. They had a lot of international trade and many people from different countries came to visit. They learned new things from each other and became friends.
