ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Forensic dentistry

Forensic dentistry is like being a detective who uses teeth to figure out things. Teeth are super special because they are different for everyone and they can last a really long time even after someone dies. Forensic dentists use their superpowers of knowing about teeth to help solve crimes or identify people who might not have any other way of being recognized.

For example, if someone goes missing and their body is found but nobody knows who they are, a forensic dentist might be able to look at their teeth to figure out who they are. The dentist can look for things like fillings or missing teeth that are special to that person.

Also, if someone gets hurt or killed but their body is too messed up to figure out what happened, a forensic dentist can use their smarts to figure it out. They can look at the teeth and see if there are any marks or damage that could have been caused by a weapon or something else that might be related to the crime.

Being a forensic dentist is very important because they help solve crimes and bring justice to people who have been hurt or killed. So, if you ever lose your teeth or get hurt, don't worry because there are super smart people who can use your teeth to find out what happened!
