ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Forensic speechreading

Forensic speechreading is when someone tries to figure out what another person is saying by watching their lips and face. This is helpful because sometimes people cannot hear what is being said or the audio is not clear. Just like reading a book, speechreading involves looking for clues and putting them together to make sense of what is being said. Speechreaders pay attention to things like lip movements, facial expressions, and body language. Forensic speechreaders use these clues to help solve crimes or figure out what someone is saying in a video or audio recording. Kind of like being a detective, but instead of looking for clues on the ground, they look for clues on someone's face!
