ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fort Whoop-Up

Fort Whoop-Up is like a big playhouse for grown-ups that was built a long time ago in Lethbridge, Canada. People used to go there to trade and sell things like fur and guns. Just like you might trade toys with your friends, people from different places would trade different things at Fort Whoop-Up.

But not everyone followed the rules at Fort Whoop-Up. Some people were sneaky and did bad things like selling alcohol to the local Indigenous people, even though it wasn't allowed. That made some people very upset, and they went to make sure the rules were followed.

Nowadays, Fort Whoop-Up is a historical site where we go to learn about what life was like a long time ago. We can see old buildings and artifacts and remember what it was like to play in a big playhouse when we were kids.
