ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Forward caste

Imagine a class full of students. Let's say there are some students who are really good at studies, they always get good grades and their teachers give them extra attention. Some parents and teachers might think these students are special and deserve some extra benefits. They might even start calling them the "forward" students because they are ahead of others.

Similarly, in India, there are certain groups of people who were traditionally considered to be "forward castes" because they had more power, wealth, and education compared to other castes. These forward castes include communities like Brahmins, Kshatriyas, and Vaishyas.

Unfortunately, this system of identifying certain groups as "forward" and others as "backward" or "lower" castes has led to social inequalities and discrimination for generations. It's important to remember that everyone deserves equal respect and opportunities, regardless of their background or caste.
