ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Forward guidance

Forward guidance is when a central bank, like the Federal Reserve in the United States, tells people what it plans to do with interest rates in the future. The central bank announces its plans in a statement or by holding a press conference. They do this to tell people what to expect, so people can make decisions about things like if they should buy a house or start a business. Making sure people have clear expectations can help make the economy run smoothly.
