ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fostering (falconry)

Fostering in falconry is when a baby bird called a falcon (or sometimes a hawk) is taken from its nest and given to a person called a falconer. The falconer takes care of the bird, teaches it how to hunt, and trains it to come back to them when called.

Just like how your mom or dad take care of you when you were a baby and teach you how to do things, the falconer takes care of the baby bird and teaches it how to fly and hunt.

The falconer will also make sure that the bird is healthy and fed well. Once the bird is big enough and knows how to hunt, the falconer will release it back into the wild, so that it can live on its own.

This is a very special thing because the falconer is helping to make sure that the baby bird is safe and healthy and can survive on its own in the wild. It's kind of like being a superhero for birds!
