Hack (falconry)

Okay kiddo, so have you ever seen a bird of prey like a hawk or a falcon? They are really cool birds that are really good at hunting smaller animals.

Now, when we talk about "hacking" in falconry, we're talking about a special way to train a young bird to hunt on its own.

So, when a baby bird is born, it doesn't know how to hunt yet. But, its instincts tell it that it needs to eat to survive. So, people who practice falconry will take a baby bird and raise it until it's old enough to learn how to hunt for itself.

This is where "hacking" comes in. To teach the bird how to hunt, people will take it out into the wild and let it go free. They will put food out for the bird to find, but it has to use its own hunting skills to catch the food.

Over time, the bird will get better and better at hunting on its own until it doesn't need help anymore. Then, it will come back to its owner to get food and to hunt with them.

So, hacking is a special way to train a bird to be an awesome hunter all on its own.
