Fraktur (Pennsylvania German folk art)

Fraktur is a really special way of writing and drawing that some people from a long time ago used to make. They lived in a place called Pennsylvania, and they spoke a language called Pennsylvania Dutch.

When they wrote and drew, they used special shapes and patterns that made everything look really pretty and fancy. They used a lot of flowers and leaves and swirls to make their pages look like they were from a magical land.

Sometimes they even used gold paint to make the words and pictures shiny and sparkly! They would use fraktur to make special things like calendars, letters, and even to decorate their homes.

Today, fraktur is a way for us to learn about how people used to live a long time ago in Pennsylvania. We can see their amazing artwork and remember how they made everything so beautiful.
