Free City of Danzig
Okay kiddo, are you ready to learn about the Free City of Danzig?
So a long time ago, there was a place called Danzig. It was a really important city because it was near the sea and lots of people came and went from there. Now, at that time, some big powerful countries decided to take over Danzig, but they couldn't agree on who would own it.
So they decided to make Danzig its own special place, like a special toy for everyone to play with. They called it the Free City of Danzig, which means it wasn't owned by any one country, but by a group of countries together.
The people who lived in Danzig were pretty happy about this, because they got to make their own rules and do their own thing. But then, things got kind of tricky. One of those powerful countries, Germany, wanted to take over the Free City of Danzig for itself.
This made the other countries very worried, because they thought Germany might try to take over even more places. So they made a deal with each other that they would protect the Free City of Danzig and not let Germany do anything bad to it.
