Free Movement of Citizens Directive

Imagine that you want to go visit your friend who lives on the other side of the playground. You don't want someone to stop you from going, right? Well, that's kind of what the free movement of citizens directive is for grown-ups.

In some countries, there are rules that make it hard for people to move from one country to another. Maybe you need a special permit or have to pay a lot of money. But some people might want to move to a new country to work, study or just live there. The free movement of citizens directive says that people living in some European countries can move to another European country without too much trouble. This is called "free movement".

So, let's say that you live in Germany and you want to move to France. If your parents have a job or go to school in France, you can go with them. You don't need to have a special passport or pay anything extra. You can also go to the doctor or use public services like anyone else.

Of course, this doesn't mean that you can just do whatever you want in another country. You still have to obey the laws and be a good citizen. But the free movement of citizens directive makes it easier for people to move around Europe and have more opportunities.
