ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Free World (World War II)

During World War II, there were two groups of countries fighting against each other. One group was called the "Allies" and the other group was called the "Axis." The Allies were made up of countries that believed in things like freedom, democracy, and equality. They wanted people to have the right to choose their own leaders and make their own decisions. Some of the main countries in the Allies were the United States, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union.

The Axis, on the other hand, believed in things like control and power. They wanted to control other countries and people and make all the decisions for them. Some of the main countries in the Axis were Germany, Italy, and Japan.

The Allies were fighting against the Axis because they did not want the Axis to take over and control the world. They wanted to protect people's freedom and help them make their own choices.

Eventually, the Allies won the war and the Axis was defeated. This meant that the countries in the Allied group were able to keep their freedom and democracy, and people were able to continue making their own decisions without being controlled by others. This was called the "free world" because people were free to live their lives the way they wanted to, without being told what to do by someone else.
