ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Free motion equation

When you throw a ball, it moves through the air in a certain way based on how hard you threw it and which way you threw it. Scientists have figured out a way to describe how things move through the air using special numbers called equations. These equations help us understand how things move and how they change their movement over time. The free motion equation specifically describes how an object moves when there is no force applied to it - like a ball rolling down a hill with no one pushing it. This equation tells us how fast the object is moving and in which direction it is going at any given time. By using the free motion equation, scientists can predict exactly where the object will be at any given time - kind of like being able to see into the future!
