ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Freehold (law)

Okay kiddo, so imagine you have a toy that you really love and you want to keep it forever. That is sort of like what freehold means in law. It is a type of ownership of land or property where the person who owns it gets to keep it forever and do whatever they want with it.

It's like having a really big sandbox that you can play in all by yourself, and you get to make all the rules. Freehold means that you can build things on the land, or sell it to someone else if you want, or even leave it to your family in your will when you pass away.

So, if you think of land as something you can play with and freehold as a way to make sure no one else can take it away from you, that's pretty much what it means. It's a way to have your own special space that you can keep forever, just like your special toy.
