ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Frequency deviation

Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes music sounds fast and other times it sounds slow? That's because the speed of the sound waves that make up the music changes. We call this speed the "frequency" of the sound waves.

Now, let's pretend that we're listening to a radio station. The radio station sends out a signal that has a specific frequency. But sometimes, for different reasons, the frequency of that signal might change a little bit. This change in frequency is what we call "frequency deviation."

Think of it like playing a game of catch with a friend. If you always throw the ball at the same speed and your friend always catches it at the same speed, everything works perfectly. But if your friend starts catching the ball more slowly, you might have to throw it harder to compensate. That's like how a radio signal might have to change its frequency to compensate for any deviation.

Hope that makes sense, kiddo!
