Friedrich August Wolf was a very smart man who lived a long time ago. He was born in Germany in the year 1759! That was a really long time ago.
When Friedrich was a kid, he loved school and learning new things. He was so good at learning that when he grew up, he became a teacher!
Friedrich was really good at teaching and his students loved him. He taught them all about ancient Greece and Rome, which were really old civilizations that lived a long time before Friedrich was born.
But Friedrich thought that the way ancient Greek and Roman stories were taught wasn't very good. He thought that people should learn about these stories in a different way.
So, he made up a new way of teaching these stories. Instead of just reading the stories like a book, he would teach his students about the time period, the culture, and the beliefs of the people who wrote those stories.
This made the stories more interesting to his students because they could understand why the characters acted the way they did. Friedrich's new way of teaching also caught on and is still used by many people today!
