ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Frugivore

A frugivore is an animal that primarily eats fruit as its main source of food. You may have heard of some animals that are frugivores, such as monkeys, birds and bats. They like to eat fruits because they are sweet and contain a lot of energy that helps them stay strong and active. It's like when you eat candy or chocolate, they give you energy to play and run around.

However, just like us, frugivores need to eat other things, too, to make sure they stay healthy. Sometimes they also eat nuts, seeds, leaves or insects and other small animals. Think of it like when we eat vegetables or meat along with our favorite foods, like pizza or burgers.

Being a frugivore can have its benefits and challenges. Eating a diet that's high in fruit can help animals stay healthy and strong, but they also need to be careful not to eat too much of the same type of fruit, or they may not get all the nutrients they need. This is why some frugivores, like monkeys, will eat different kinds of fruit from various trees to make sure they get a balanced diet.
