Functional derivative

The functional derivative is like the derivative you learn about in school, but it works a little differently. Instead of just looking at one number and how it changes, it looks at a whole function - something that has many different numbers put together. It tells us how the numbers in the function change as we change something else. It's like an equation that helps us figure out how two different things are connected.
