Furring

So imagine you have a big, blank wall in front of you. If you want to put something on that wall, like a fancy painting, you need something strong to hold it up. That's where furring comes in!

Furring is like building a little frame on the wall. First, you need to measure how big the wall is and figure out how many pieces of wood you'll need for the frame. Then, you attach those pieces of wood to the wall using screws or nails. You should end up with a wooden grid on the wall.

Now that you have the furring attached to the wall, you can attach your fancy painting on top of it. The furring provides a secure base for the painting to hang from, without harming the wall itself.

So basically, furring is like building a little wall on a big wall, so you can hang stuff on it without damaging the big wall.
