ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Fusion mechanism

So you know how sometimes when you play with playdough, you can squish two different colors together and they stick to each other? That's kind of like what happens in fusion.

Fusion is when two tiny particles called atoms get squished together to make a new, bigger atom. This happens because there's a lot of heat and pressure pushing down on the atoms.

When these atoms get squished together, something really cool happens - their tiny little insides join together too! It's like two Lego blocks that snap together to make a bigger Lego block.

This new, bigger atom that's made from the fusion is really special. It gives off lots of energy and light - that's how the sun shines!

But making fusion happen on Earth is really tricky. Scientists have to put a lot of energy into squishing the atoms together, and they have to be really careful so it doesn't go BOOM!
