G factor in non-humans

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of something called an IQ test, where people take a bunch of questions to see how smart they are? Well, scientists sometimes use something similar to give animals a "smartness" score too. They call it the "g factor".

So, the g factor is like a way for scientists to measure how smart animals are at a bunch of different challenges, like figuring out puzzles or remembering things. Different animals have different levels of g factor. For example, some birds are really good at remembering where they stored their food, so they might have a higher g factor than some other animals.

The g factor isn't just important for testing animals' smarts, it also helps scientists study how intelligent different species are compared to each other. So, a scientist might use the g factor to see how smart monkeys are compared to rats or dogs.

Remember though, just because an animal has a high g factor doesn't mean they're smarter than humans. Humans are still considered the smartest animals, but studying the g factor in non-human animals helps us understand more about animal behavior and intelligence.
