ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gaṇasaṅgha

Okay my little friend, do you know what a group of people is? It's when you and your friends play together or when your family gets together to celebrate something.

Well, the gaṇasaṅgha is similar to that, but it's a group of special people who practice Buddhism together. These people are called monks, and they live together in a place called a monastery.

In the gaṇasaṅgha, the monks study and follow the teachings of the Buddha, which are all about being kind, honest and peaceful. They also help each other to learn and improve, and they work together to keep the monastery clean and beautiful.

Just like you have friends and family to support you, the gaṇasaṅgha is like a family for the monks, and they support each other as they try to live by the Buddha's teachings.

So that's what the gaṇasaṅgha is, it's a group of Buddhist monks who live and practice together in a monastery, just like a big happy family.
