Gaia is like a really special robot that was sent into space to help us better understand stars and planets. It has super fancy technology inside that can measure how bright and how far away stars are. It also has special cameras that take amazing pictures of them too!
The robot is really smart and knows where to look in the sky to find stars and planets. It travels in space around the sun, just like the Earth does, but much further away. It can see stars that are way too far away for humans to see with just their eyes.
The pictures and data that Gaia collects are sent back to Earth where lots of very clever scientists study them to learn more about our galaxy, the Milky Way. They can use this information to make really cool maps that show where all the stars and planets are and how they move around us.
So even though we can't see all the stars and planets ourselves, Gaia helps us learn more about them and the universe we live in!
