Galactorrhea

Galactorrhea is when breast milk leaks out of a person's nipples, but they are not pregnant or breastfeeding. This can happen to both women and men.

The milk comes from small glands in the breast called mammary glands. These glands are controlled by hormones in the body, one of which is called prolactin. If there is too much prolactin in the body, it can cause the mammary glands to make milk, even when there is no baby to feed.

There are many things that can cause a person to have too much prolactin in their body, such as certain medications or medical conditions. Sometimes, doctors aren't sure why a person has galactorrhea.

Having galactorrhea can be embarrassing or uncomfortable for some people. But it is usually not harmful to their health, and there are treatments available to help control the symptoms.
