Garitas in Mexico

Garitas are big booths or buildings that people pass through when they are going between Mexico and the United States. When people travel from one country to the other, they have to cross a border. The border is like a big line that separates the two countries. Garitas are where they check people’s passports and IDs to make sure they are allowed to cross.

The people who work at the garitas are usually wearing uniforms and they might ask you some questions like where you are going, what you are bringing with you, or how long you plan to stay. They might also check your car or your belongings to make sure you are not carrying anything illegal, like weapons or drugs.

Garitas are really important because they help keep the border safe and secure. They make sure that only people who are supposed to be crossing the border can do so. So, next time you cross the border between Mexico and the United States, you will know what to expect when you see a garita!
