ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

memory mapped files

Memory mapped files are a way to store data on your computer. The data is stored in special sections of your computer's memory, which is the same area that holds all the information your computer needs to operate. Your computer can access the data in this special memory much faster than if you were to store it in traditional files on your computer's hard drive. This is useful in many ways, such as if you're playing a video game and need to quickly access the game's files without having to wait for the game to load.
