Gauge covariant derivative

A gauge covariant derivative is like a regular derivative, but it tells us how something changes when the gauges (like rulers or measuring tools) that we're using to measure it change. For example, if we use a ruler to measure the size of something, but then we change to a different ruler instead, the gauge covariant derivative will tell us how the size of something changes when we switch rulers.
