ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gausón

Okay kiddo, have you ever played with magnets? We know that magnets have two poles, a north pole and a south pole. When we bring two magnets close to each other, they can either attract or repel each other, depending on the poles they have.

Now imagine that there is something called the "gausón". The gausón is like a big magnet that is in the earth. It has its north pole and south pole too, just like a regular magnet. But instead of attracting or repelling other magnets, the gausón helps us understand how much magnetism is coming from the earth.

Scientists use something called a magnetometer to measure the strength and direction of the gausón. By understanding the gausón, scientists can learn more about things like the earth's magnetic field and how it affects things like compasses and electronics.

So to sum it up, the gausón is like a giant magnet in the earth that helps scientists learn more about the earth's magnetic field.
