General Sherman Incident

Well, little one, let me tell you a story about something that happened during a war a long time ago. There was a big war called the American Civil War and it happened between 1861 and 1865. During this war, there was a very famous General on the Union side called General William Tecumseh Sherman.

Now, General Sherman was known for being very tough and he led his army on a march across a big part of the South, all the way from Tennessee to Georgia. This march was called the "March to the Sea" and it lasted for about 4 months.

During this March to the Sea, General Sherman and his army did some things that upset a lot of people in the South. They burned down buildings and destroyed crops, which made it even harder for the people living there. This was called "total war" because they were trying to hurt the people, not just the soldiers.

One incident that people still talk about today was when General Sherman’s army burned down the city of Atlanta. This was a very important city for the South, and the people who lived there were very upset.

So, the General Sherman incident refers to all of the things that General Sherman and his army did during the March to the Sea, including the burning of Atlanta. It is still remembered today as a very difficult and sad time in American history.
