ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

USS Pueblo (AGER-2)

Okay kiddo, so once upon a time there was a big boat called the USS Pueblo. It was like a big floating office where people worked for the United States of America. They had a special job to do, which was to spy on a country called North Korea. When you spy on someone, it means you try to find out what they're doing without them knowing.

One day, while the USS Pueblo was spying on North Korea, some other big boats came along and started shooting at it! The people on the USS Pueblo got really scared and tried to hide, but they couldn't get away. North Korea's soldiers finally caught them and took control of the boat.

The people on the USS Pueblo were taken hostage by North Korea, which means they were kept prisoner. This was a really sad and scary time for them and their families. The United States government tried to negotiate to get them released, but it didn't happen right away.

Finally, after 11 months, the USS Pueblo's crew were allowed to come home. But the boat itself was still being held by North Korea and they didn't give it back until a few years later. The USS Pueblo is now a museum in North Korea, where people can go and learn about the history of the boat and what happened to it.

So, to sum it up, the USS Pueblo was a boat that was used for spying on North Korea, but it got caught and the people on board were kept prisoner for a long time. They eventually came home, but the boat itself was held hostage for a while.
