Genetic engineering

Genetic engineering is like a giant puzzle. Scientists take pieces from different puzzles and fit them together to make a new puzzle. Scientists take little parts of an organism's DNA (a special code inside living things that tells the organism how to grow and work) and add them to other organism's DNA. By doing this, scientists can change the looks and abilities of living things. For example, scientists can add a special DNA piece that makes fish grow bigger or tomatoes ripen faster.
