Geodesic sphere

Imagine you had a big, bouncy ball made out of rubber bands. When all the rubber bands are connected together in the shape of the ball, it creates something called a geodesic sphere. A geodesic sphere is made up of many triangles that are all the same size, kinda like a soccer ball.

Now, let’s pretend you live inside of this bouncy ball. If you walk around in any direction, you’ll inevitably end up right back where you started but it might be a different direction than you initially went in. That’s because the inside of a geodesic sphere is what we call “curved,” and your brain can’t quite figure out the weird curves and corners that exist inside.

This is why geodesic spheres are really cool, because they are abundant in nature, from DNA to star clusters. In fact, they’re so amazing that architects and designers use this concept to create things that are both beautiful and functional, like domes and even some types of buildings.
