ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Geohash

Geohash is a way of turning a place on Earth (like your home or a park) into a secret code. It's like playing a game of "hide and seek" with locations.

Imagine a big world map with lots and lots of squares. Each square gets a special name, like "A1" or "C3". These names are a secret code that only certain people know how to make.

Now, imagine you want to play "hide and seek" with your friends. You could give them the code for a square on the map, and they would have to find the place that belongs to that square. This is what geohash does – it turns a place on the map into a secret code that is easy to share with others.

Geohash is like a puzzle. You start with a map of the world, and then you divide it into smaller squares. Each square gets a name (the secret code), and that code identifies a very specific location on the Earth. When someone gives you a geohash code, you can use it to find the spot they're talking about.

So, if your friend sends you a geohash code, you can put it into a special website or app that will show you the exact spot on the map. You can use this information to find the place (like a park or a statue) and maybe even find a secret treasure or message that your friend has hidden there!
