Geology of Monmouthshire

Okay, so imagine Monmouthshire is a big puzzle piece that fits into Wales. This puzzle piece was formed a long, long time ago when the land was changing a lot. It was kind of like a really slow dance - some parts were moving up, some parts were moving down, and some parts were twisting and turning. This dance made the land all wiggly and bumpy.

Some parts of Monmouthshire used to be under the sea, so you can find lots of fossils of creatures that lived in the water a really long time ago. Other parts were pushed up high into the sky, so you can see big hills and mountains with rocks that were squished and changed by all the pressure.

There are also some places in Monmouthshire where you can find really special rocks called volcanic rocks. These rocks were made when hot, gooey lava erupted from a volcano and cooled down really fast. The lava was so strong that it melted and mixed with the rocks around it.

So basically, the geology of Monmouthshire is all about how the land was shaped and formed over a very long time. It's like a big story book filled with different chapters about the changing land, creatures that lived on it, and the power of volcanoes.
