ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

German Monarchy

Long, long time ago, there was a big kingdom called Germany. The person who ruled over this kingdom was very special and called a King or a Queen. They were like the boss of the whole kingdom! The King or Queen had so much power that they got to decide what was allowed and what was not allowed, just like parents do for their children.

However, over time, the King or Queen's power slowly reduced as more and more people started to demand that they have a say in how the country was run. This led to a government being formed where the people could make decisions together for the good of the country.

Even though the government was now in charge of making decisions, the King or Queen still had a lot of influence and people respected them. They did not have as much power as before, but they were still very important.

Unfortunately, over time, the King or Queen's influence continued to decrease until they were eventually removed from power altogether. Nowadays, Germany has a democratic government where everyone has a say in important decisions.
