ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

German mediatization

Okay kiddo, so back in the olden days in Germany, there were a bunch of smaller kingdoms and territories with their own rulers, kinda like how you have different toys that you like to play with. But then in the late 1700s and early 1800s, another bigger kingdom called Prussia was getting super strong and wanted to unite everyone under their rule, like when you try to put all your toys in one box.

So they came up with something called "mediatization," which basically meant that all these smaller kingdoms and territories had to give up their power and become part of bigger ones. It's like when you have a bunch of Legos and you take them apart and put them together to make a bigger toy.

This made things a bit more complicated for the people living in those territories because they now had to follow the rules of a different ruler, and some of them weren't too happy about it. But for Prussia, it meant they could become even more powerful and influential.

Does that make sense, kiddo?
