So, imagine you and your friend really love playing with toys together. But, sometimes you have arguments about which toys to play with or how to play with them.
A long time ago, Germany and the Soviet Union were kind of like friends who liked playing with countries instead of toys. But, then they had a big argument and didn't want to play together anymore.
However, Germany was starting to get into some trouble with their other friends in Europe and they thought maybe they could be friends with the Soviet Union again. So, they decided to have a talk to see if they could become friends again and play together.
During these talks, they discussed how they could help each other out and be strong together. Germany wanted to make sure the Soviet Union wouldn't be friends with Germany's enemies, and the Soviet Union wanted Germany to help them with their problems too.
But, even though they talked for a while, they never became friends again. They were just too different and had different ideas about how to play with other countries.
So, in the end, they went their separate ways and played with other friends instead.
