ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Gluconeogenesis

Gluconeogenesis is a process where the body makes new glucose (sugar) to be used as energy. The body needs energy to stay alive and healthy. Gluconeogenesis happens when there isn't enough food or when our bodies use up the stored energy from food, so it needs to make new energy. It is like a factory that works hard to make more energy from the resources it is given. It takes special chemicals inside of cells and turns them into glucose. That way, the body can use it for energy!
