ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Golden rule (law)

The golden rule is a really important idea that people have been talking about for thousands of years. It's all about treating other people the way you would want to be treated.

So imagine that you're playing with your favorite toy, and your friend comes over and takes it from you without asking. How would you feel? Probably pretty upset, right? That's because you wouldn't want someone to take your toy without asking.

Now, let's say that you see your friend playing with a toy that you really want. If you take it from them without asking, they'll probably feel just as upset as you did when they took your toy.

So the golden rule is all about remembering how you would want to be treated, and trying to treat other people that way too. If you're nice and respectful to others, they're more likely to be nice and respectful to you. It's kind of like spreading happiness and kindness around!
