ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Government speech

"Government speech" is when people who work for the government (like the President or a police officer) speak or share information. It's like when your teacher tells you something in class, that's their "government speech" because they work for the school.

Sometimes the government will make rules about what people can say (like not being allowed to yell "fire" in a crowded place when there isn't really a fire). These rules are part of the government speech too.

This kind of speech is important because the government needs to communicate with the people it serves, so they can make sure everyone is safe and knows what's going on.
